The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pushed back the submission deadline for candidate lists regarding the governorship and state assembly elections for the 2027 general polls. Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed the update.
Political parties requested additional time to finalize their submissions, leading INEC to shift the deadline from Saturday, August 8, 2026, to Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Regarding the Osun State election, the commission clarified that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) stolen during an attack on local collection centers in Odo-Otin and Ife Central are invalid for voting purposes. Voters affected by these thefts can now access downloadable replacement cards.
Those needing replacements for lost, damaged, or defaced cards have until midnight on August 9 to download their copies, allowing INEC to finalize data before the August 15, 2026, election. Previous PVC distribution efforts in Osun occurred at the Registration Area level from July 22 through July 31, followed by a local government collection phase from August 1 to 7.
