The Oyo State House of Assembly has granted Governor Seyi Makinde permission to commence his yearly vacation. As a result, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal will manage the state’s operations while the governor is away.
Governor Makinde’s time off is scheduled from August 10, 2026, until September 11, 2026, with his return to official duties set for September 14, 2026. This legislative green light followed a formal letter read during Thursday’s plenary session by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, as per the Nigerian Constitution’s requirement for informing the legislature about planned absences.
State representatives supported the request and voiced their belief in a smooth transition of power. Deputy Governor Lawal will serve as Acting Governor for the duration of this leave, handling daily administrative tasks to maintain government functions. Following the vote, the Deputy Speaker extended well wishes for the governor’s break and reaffirmed the assembly’s dedication to working alongside the executive branch for the public good. He also highlighted the deputy governor’s proven capability to provide steady leadership, ensuring the stability of ongoing state policies.
