The Lagos State Government has identified Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki as the areas with the highest crime rates in the state.

This was revealed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, during a ministerial press briefing at Alausa, Ikeja, marking the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

Using data from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS), Pedro highlighted a worrying concentration of criminal activity in the state’s commercial and residential centers.

“Between January 2024 and May 2025, the top three crime locations in Lagos State were Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki,” he said.

Pedro also disclosed that the LCIS has documented a total of 74,962 criminal cases and inmates across Lagos State from 2018 to May 2025.

He expressed concern about the strain on the state’s correctional facilities, which are currently overstretched. As of May 2025, Lagos correctional centres are operating at 106 percent over capacity, housing 9,096 inmates—well beyond their intended limits.

Emphasizing the significance of the LCIS, Pedro described it as a transformative project designed to digitize and streamline criminal justice processes, improve efficiency, and support data-driven policy decisions.
