Governor Makinde Asks Oyo Assembly to Approve N330 Billion Budget Adjustment

Governor Seyi Makinde has submitted a request to the Oyo State House of Assembly for a N330 billion budget realignment and supplementary appropriation to fast-track key infrastructure projects.

Governor Seyi Makinde has formally asked the Oyo State House of Assembly to authorize a N330 billion budget realignment and supplementary appropriation. Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin presented the governor’s request, which includes the Oyo State Supplementary and Realignment Appropriation Bill 2026 and the Oyo State Supplementary Finance Bill 2026, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Makinde stated that these legislative changes are essential to ensure the swift completion of critical infrastructure and priority government initiatives. The governor highlighted that several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies requested more funding to finish ongoing projects. These requirements align with the administration’s Sustainable Development Roadmap for 2023–2027. Major infrastructure works slated for funding include the Circular Road, the Airport-Ajia-New Ife Expressway, and the renovation of Ladoke Akintola International Airport.

Furthermore, the funds will support debt servicing, gratuity payments, and the local government elections scheduled for late 2026. The budget proposal allocates N294.5 billion for capital expenditures and N35.5 billion for recurrent costs. Of the total amount, N120 billion will be reallocated from unused departmental funds, while N210 billion will serve as a supplementary increase. If approved, the state’s total 2026 budget will rise from N892.09 billion to N1.102 trillion. The assembly has already conducted the first and second readings of the bills and referred them to the Committee on Finance, Appropriation and State Economic Planning for further review.
