Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, recently explained that the creation of the Betting and Lottery Regulatory Agency is intended to monitor operators, prevent financial scams, and enforce legal standards. While maintaining his personal stance as a pastor against gambling, the Governor emphasized that his primary duty is to ensure order within the state.
The announcement, released by the Government House Media Unit in Uyo on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, highlighted the Governor’s dedication to his ARISE Agenda. Since taking office, he has signed 14 executive bills into law, including the formation of the Akwa Ibom State Geographical Information Service, the Senior Citizens Centre, and the Ibom Broadcasting Corporation. Other significant legislation covers sectors such as public procurement, fiscal responsibility, and the establishment of the University of Education in Afaha Nsit.
Furthermore, Governor Eno plans to transition medical doctors currently performing administrative duties back to hospital wards. The administration noted that keeping physicians away from direct clinical work for extended periods poses risks to patient care and the quality of health services.
