Gas Explosion Claims Lives of Couple in Ebonyi
A gas explosion has resulted in the deaths of a couple, identified as Chioma and George, in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
This followed earlier speculations that the deaths might have been caused by a dynamite or inverter battery explosion.
Chioma reportedly died five days after the explosion, while George succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast on Wednesday, September 11, in the hospital.
The explosion occurred shortly after the couple moved into their new residence in Abakaliki.
“The preliminary report indicates that the explosion was due to a gas leak, not dynamite or a battery. However, further investigation is ongoing,” Ukandu said.
