Former One Direction Singer Liam Payne Dropped by Music Label Days Before His Death
Former One Direction singer Liam Payne was reportedly dropped by his record label, Universal Music, just days before his shocking death.
A source informed the Daily Mail that Universal Music decided to cut ties with Payne as his solo career was struggling.
“Liam’s advance was massive and he didn’t recoup [it],” the insider claimed, adding that of all the One Direction members, Liam was “on the wrong path musically.”
His sophomore album was reportedly put on hold prior to the label’s decision to part ways. Payne had signed with Capitol Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music, in 2016 after One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus in 2015.
Following his passing, Universal Music Group shared an image of Liam Payne on Instagram, expressing their devastation over his death.
The Universal Music Group tribute read: ‘We are devastated by the tragic passing of Liam Payne.
‘His legacy will live on through his music and the countless fans he inspired and who adored him.
‘We send our deepest condolences to Liam’s family and loved ones.’
Meanwhile, it was reported that Liam’s public relations representative resigned earlier this month, leaving him without any publicity support.
This development followed legal proceedings initiated by his ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, who accused him of repeatedly contacting her despite their breakup.
The combination of these personal and professional challenges added to the difficulties he was facing in the lead-up to his tragic death.
One source said: ‘It is like all of Liam’s music career that he had built up since he went solo eight years ago was crumbling, there was very little left for him.
‘It must have absolutely devastated him.’
Payne, aged 31, tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening, and medics later confirmed his death.
Police discovered his body along with medications, including clonazepam, which is typically prescribed for epilepsy, muscle spasms, and panic disorders.
The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation, and fans and the music community are in shock over the loss.
