Abdulganiyu Jaji, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), revealed that in 2024, fire outbreaks in Nigeria resulted in the loss of property valued at approximately N67.1 billion.

He shared this information during a news briefing in Abuja, noting that around 100 people died due to these fire incidents within the same year. However, Jaji also highlighted the efforts of the service, stating that the FFS successfully saved property worth N1.94 trillion.

In 2024, Jaji explained that the Federal Fire Service successfully saved property worth N1.94 trillion while recording an estimated property loss of N67.1 billion due to fire outbreaks.

He added, “In the same year, Federal Fire Service responded to fire and other emergencies during which 30,890 lives were saved while over 100 lives were lost.”

Jaji expressed concern that fire outbreaks could increase during the harmattan season due to low humidity. He urged operators of fuel stations, petrol tankers, gas refilling stations, gas cylinder users, and the general public to adhere to safety protocols and regulations to prevent such incidents.

Jaji further emphasized that the Federal Fire Service would continue to pursue its objectives with robust strategies, operational efficiency, and proactive measures this year.

He highlighted the importance of raising awareness and improving response times, noting that the Service would leverage advanced technologies such as the National Fire Detection and Alarm System (NAFDAS) and the Fire Alarm App, N-Alert, to enhance its efforts.
