Final Photos of Family of Five Taken Just Before Their Helicopter Crashed Into NYC’s Hudson River While on Vacation From Spain
A senior executive at the multinational tech firm Siemens, along with his wife and children, were among the five individuals who lost their lives when a helicopter tragically crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday, April 10, according to law enforcement officials.
Agustin Escobar, the Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, perished in the crash along with his wife, their three children, and the yet-to-be-identified pilot, after the sightseeing helicopter they were aboard went down in the river.
Heartbreaking images from the New York Helicopter Tours website show the family of five, warmly dressed, smiling together in front of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter and seated inside before the tragic flight.
Escobar’s wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, was identified as one of the victims. According to a source familiar with the investigation, she held a global management role at an energy technology firm.
Her LinkedIn profile indicates she had spent seven years working in Barcelona as a global commercialization manager at Siemens Energy.
Their three children were all believed to be of middle school age or younger.
“No matter how hard things got, he always stayed calm and kept it together. He had this way of making things feel OK, even when they weren’t,” Juan Ignacio Diaz, who used to work with Escobar, told The Post Thursday night.
“And he never forgot what mattered most — his family.”
His business acumen was only exceeded by the relationships he had with his family and friends, his friend Diaz said.
“He was such a great person — kind, steady, and always there when you needed him,” Diaz said.
“He was a loyal friend, someone you could really count on.”
Diaz, who previously worked at Siemens, also called Escobar “a true family man.”
“He loved his wife and kids so much — they were everything to him,” he said.
“He was a loving, fun, and just really cool dad,” Diaz said. “I’m going to miss him and his family.
“I love you my friend.”
According to law enforcement sources, the family had just arrived in New York City from Barcelona earlier that same day.
The cause of the helicopter crash remains unknown, as an investigation is currently ongoing.
