FCT Resident Doctors Begin Seven-Day Warning Strike
Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have begun a seven-day warning strike.
In a communique signed by President George Ebong, the Association of Resident Doctors described the FCT health sector as severely weakened by persistent structural challenges, emphasizing the urgent need for broad reforms.
The group is demanding swift action to address shortages of medical personnel, malfunctioning equipment, unpaid allowances, and poor working conditions. It also highlighted issues of unpaid wages, delayed promotions, and inadequate pay for promoted staff, warning that staff morale and effective healthcare delivery depend on immediate solutions.
The union had previously called on the government to tackle the growing problems in the city’s health system. Ebong noted that many resident doctors are overstretched, often managing multiple departments simultaneously.
He appealed to the federal government to urgently intervene, cautioning that continued neglect of the sector could lead to a “systemic collapse.”
