Eyewitnesses recall the tragedy of the Abuja truck explosion that claimed six lives.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived at the scene to contain the blaze and attend to victims. However, by the time help arrived, several vehicles had been completely burnt, and multiple casualties were reported.
The inferno caused a gridlock on the busy Karu Bridge, leaving commuters stranded for hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and restore order.
Officials have yet to confirm the number of casualties, but eyewitnesses fear the death toll could be high due to the intensity of the fire. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, while rescue efforts continue.
“The CNG gas it was carrying started exploding, affecting many lives and property By the time the fire service arrived, most of the vehicles had already burnt.”
Another eyewitness, Gideon Simon, said, “Yesterday, while we were outside, we saw the truck coming from the Abacha Barracks. Its brakes failed, and it started hitting vehicles along the way.
“By the time it reached this spot (points to the accident scene), the vehicles had blocked its path. Then it caught fire and started exploding because it was a CNG truck.”
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, especially on highways, to prevent such tragic incidents. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess the full extent of the damage. Officials have assured the public that measures will be taken to improve road safety and emergency response effectiveness in the future.
