Emam Ashour initially put Egypt ahead in the first half. However, a Mohamed Hany own goal in the 55th minute brought Australia back into the match. This victory marks Egypt’s first-ever win in a World Cup knockout fixture, setting up a future match against either Argentina or Cape Verde.
Morocco was the first African side to advance to the Round of 16 and is scheduled to play co-hosts Canada. Meanwhile, six other African nations have already been knocked out of the tournament.
