The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State has assigned 1,542 staff members to secure the region throughout the 2026 Eid al-Kabir festivities.
Saidi Akintayo, the state commandant, confirmed the move during a Friday press conference in Benin.
This initiative aligns with orders from NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Audi.
The goal is to keep celebrations smooth across all three senatorial districts.
The force consists of members from the armed squad, tactical teams, the Agro Rangers, and the counter-terrorism, intelligence, and operations units.
Officers are now posted at high-traffic zones, including prayer grounds, transport hubs, shopping areas, and religious sites.
Akintayo has ordered senior commanders to ramp up patrols and intelligence operations to deter criminal activity.
He issued a stern warning to lawbreakers, noting that security teams are ready to neutralize threats. Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to stay alert and share information regarding suspicious behavior with authorities.
The commandant credited Governor Monday Okpebholo for bolstering security operations and highlighted the value of inter-agency cooperation.
Finally, he extended his well-wishes to the Muslim community, urging them to embrace the virtues of sacrifice and unity during the holiday.
