Drama in Akure Court as Labourer Accused of Threatening to Kill Boss Feigns Madness, Strips, and Flees
A dramatic scene unfolded at an Akure Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State when a 23-year-old laborer, Ayomide Daniel, accused of threatening to kill his boss, feigned insanity and fled the courtroom.
The suspect, arraigned before Magistrate R.I. Adelakin on Tuesday, March 12, 2025, initially displayed strange behavior by refusing to speak and acting oddly.
However, as the charges were about to be read, Daniel began shouting erratically, causing confusion and disrupting the proceedings.
The defendant, who appeared to be acting, turned his back to the court and ran outside, pretending to be insane.
He removed his clothes, stripped himself naked, and began eating dried leaves and nylons.
His bizarre behavior drew the attention of those present at the court premises, though no one, including his mother, dared to approach him.
The suspect, whose address was not provided, was charged by the police with a single count of threat to life.
Prosecutor Inspector Folashade Adeyemi stated that on March 10, in Akure, the defendant threatened the life of one Alexandral Udokwu and attacked him with a broken bottle.
The offense violates Section 86 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The prosecutor argued that the defendant was pretending to be insane, as no medical report indicated he was mentally ill, suggesting it could be a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice.
Magistrate Adelakin ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until March 23 for arraignment.
The suspect continued his “madness” act for hours before court officials and others at the premises managed to restrain and take him away.
