DisCos Increase Meter Prices by 28.03% for Second Time in Four Months
Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have announced a price increase for various electricity meter models, marking the second hike in just four months.
According to the DisCos, the cost of a single-phase meter has risen from N117,000 to as high as N149,800, reflecting an increase of 28.03% or N32,800, depending on the distribution company and meter vendor.
The new prices, which were posted on the official X handle of the DisCos, took effect on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
This increase aligns with the deregulation of meter asset providers, as directed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
In April 2024, NERC implemented a significant policy change by announcing the deregulation of meter prices under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme for end-user customers.
The goal of this move is to address persistent issues related to meter supply and pricing transparency within the electricity sector.
According to the new pricing, Eko DisCo’s single-phase meter is now priced between N135,987.5 and N161,035, while a three-phase meter is priced between N226,600 and N266,600.
Ibadan DisCo announced that customers will pay between N130,998 and N142,548 for a single-phase meter, while the cost for a three-phase meter ranges from N226,556.25 to N232,008.
Abuja DisCo customers will pay between N123,130.53 and N147,812.5 for single-phase meters, while three-phase meters are priced between N206,345.65 and N236,500.
Kano Electricity Distribution announced that its customers will pay between N127,925 and N129,999 for a single-phase meter, and between N223,793 and N235,425 for a three-phase meter.
Kaduna DisCo stated that customers will pay between N131,150 and N142,548.94 for single-phase meters, and between N220,375 and N232,008.04 for three-phase meters.

On Monday, a meeting of EU foreign ministers reportedly approved a 16th package of sanctions against Russia while saying a swift casefire that favors Moscow will not be accepted. However, Hungary, whose leader Viktor Orban has remained close to Russian President Vladimir Putin and has persistently complicated EU efforts to support Ukraine, said it will not back further sanctions. The country’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also said his country will not agree to a boost in EU military aid as US President Donald Trump continues his push to force Ukraine to agree to a peace deal with Russia. US officials met their Russian counterparts last week, while Trump and Zelenskyy have embarked on a bitter spat via the media, with the US leader accusing Kyiv of starting the war and questioning the Ukrainian president’s legitimacy. Trump’s peace plan, which appears designed to illustrate his self-appointed role as a global dealmaker, faces resistance on both sides. Russia said on Monday that the quick end to the war is “unacceptable”. A ceasefire without a long-term settlement “is the path to a swift resumption of fighting and a resumption of the conflict with even more serious consequences, including consequences for Russian-US relations,” Moscow’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said, according to the state-run RIA Novosti news agency. Meanwhile, Ukraine signalled on Sunday that a contentious proposal that would hand Washington $500bn worth of profits from Ukrainian rare minerals has now been taken off the table, and that talks on a different deal are progressing. Zelenskyy also told a forum in Kyiv that he would resign his post if that meant peace was achieved.
