Diddy to Stay in Prison as Sex Trafficking Trial Scheduled for May 5, 2025
Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in jail as his sex trafficking case is set to begin on May 5, 2025.
Less than a month after his arrest at a New York City hotel on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and using transportation for prostitution, Combs appeared before a judge during a status hearing on October 10.
During the hearing, Judge Arun Subramanian, who took over the case from Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr., scheduled the trial for May 5, 2025.
This hearing followed a day after Combs’ lawyers filed a new appeal for bail, arguing that concerns about him potentially “intimidating” witnesses for the upcoming trial were “unfounded.”
He has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, for three weeks.
The appeal, submitted on October 9, contended that Judge Carter’s previous denial of bail was based on “speculation” rather than solid evidence of interference with the investigation.
Combs’ attorneys, Alexandra A.E. Shapiro and Jason A. Driscoll, further emphasized that Combs’ travel to New York for his criminal charges last month, along with their proposal for strict monitoring—restricting access to phones, the internet, and even allowing video surveillance—supported his case for release, highlighting that their client is “presumed innocent.”
“He took extraordinary steps to demonstrate that he intended to face and contest the charges, not flee,” the filing said. “He presented a bail package that would plainly stop him from posing a danger to anyone or contacting any witnesses.”
Per the federal indictment released after his Sept. 16 arrest, Combs is been accused of participating in sexual performances, dubbed “Freak Offs” that occurred for hours or even days.
Combs is also accused of “distributing a variety of controlled substances, in part to keep the victims obedient and compliant,” according to the filing.
He is alleged to have used “force, threats of force, and coercion” to compel victims to “engage in extended sexual acts with male commercial sex workers.”
He has pleaded not guilty and continues to assert his innocence.
The rapper will remain in the Brooklyn jail until his trial on May 5.
