Diddy Accuses Federal Agents of Leaking Shocking Video of Him Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend Cassie Ventura
Embattled music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs has accused the U.S. government of leaking explosive 2016 footage that allegedly shows him brutally attacking his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway.
In a recent filing, Combs’ lawyers claimed that agents from the Department of Homeland Security undermined the Bad Boy Records founder for seven months leading up to his indictment on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, urging a federal judge to take action.
The footage, showing Combs attacking Ventura inside the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, was obtained by CNN in May, sparking public outrage against the music star.
His defense attorneys, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, allege that the government is the only entity that could have disclosed this damaging footage.
“The videotape was leaked to CNN for one reason alone: to mortally wound the reputation and the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations,” they wrote.
Ventura sued Combs last November, but the two settled just a day later.
Combs faces allegations that he used his record label as a “criminal enterprise” for over a decade, abusing women and intimidating witnesses to cover up alleged crimes.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Currently in prison, Combs’ lawyers are also working to secure his release ahead of his high-profile trial.
In their filing, Combs’ legal team emphasized that they are blaming the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the alleged leaks, not the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office.
They also claimed that federal authorities provided news outlets with false and prejudicial statements and illegally disseminated grand jury information, including the 2016 videotape.
Additionally, Combs’ lawyers complained that DHS agents conducted a “particularly brutal and public search” of his homes, including handcuffing two of his sons in front of the media.
The raids on Combs’ mansions in Los Angeles and Miami garnered significant media attention in March and uncovered substantial evidence against him.
Agnifilo and Geragos are seeking an evidentiary hearing to address the alleged misconduct and to ensure that government attorneys and agents refrain from leaking further information to the press.
They are also requesting the court to consider suppressing evidence, including the 2016 tape, or even dismissing the case altogether, according to the legal briefing.
