Desmond Elliot — Oshiomhole Introduced Me To Politics And Took Me To Tinubu
Actor and politician Desmond Elliot has credited former Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole with introducing him to politics and facilitating his meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Desmond Elliot shared, “One day, Oshiomhole took me to Asiwaju and said, ‘This is my son, and he’s interested in politics.’ Asiwaju looked at me and said he knew me already and liked me it was still a surprise to me.”
Desmond also shared his thoughts on contesting against fellow actor Olumide Oworu in the 2023 elections. He stated that he held no grudge against Olumide but expressed disappointment with some senior colleagues who backed his rival.
“I wasn’t upset with him,” he said. “I was hurt by the veterans who endorsed him.”
Desmond also recounted a harrowing experience during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, where he narrowly avoided an attack by unidentified individuals.
The protests called for the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) following allegations of extrajudicial killings and extortion.
At the time, Desmond Elliot, who was a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, came under fire for controversially describing Nigerian youths as “children” during a plenary session.
