Delta NDC Gubernatorial Candidate Claims APC Used Thugs to Block Campaign Event

NDC governorship candidate Deacon Chris Iyovwaye has accused the Delta State APC of orchestrating a campaign disruption, calling for an investigation into the incident.

Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, the governorship candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State, has claimed that local members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) hired individuals to obstruct his access to a town hall meeting. Iyovwaye stated that these agitators nearly ruined his visit, but he remains committed to providing a viable political alternative for the state.

The candidate praised his supporters for staying calm and avoiding retaliation, which kept the situation from escalating. Iyovwaye condemned the intimidation, asserting that such behavior is incompatible with democracy. He officially requested that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori guarantee equal campaign rights for all parties and urged the Inspector-General of Police, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, and the local DSS office to launch a thorough investigation.

Iyovwaye reaffirmed that the NDC will continue to focus on delivering practical leadership and addressing the state’s difficulties. He advised the ruling party to shift its focus toward public welfare instead of disruptive tactics. While asserting that his party is committed to peaceful engagement, he declared that the NDC is determined to pursue its vision of rebuilding Delta State. As of now, the APC has not issued a response to these accusations.
