Cross River Deputy Governor Peter Odey Unhurt in Convoy Crash

Cross River State Deputy Governor Peter Odey survived a convoy accident in Ugep, resulting in vehicle damage and injuries to staff members.

Dr. Peter Odey, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, escaped an accident involving his motorcade in Ugep, located within the Yakurr Local Government Area. The incident happened Sunday afternoon around 2:00 PM while the deputy governor was traveling back to Calabar after a stakeholder meeting in Obanliku regarding the Obudu Ranch Resort.

Reports indicate that a bus from the Government House, which was transporting staff and political appointees, drifted out of its lane near a military checkpoint in Ugep and struck several sandbag barriers. While the status of the Deputy Governor remains officially unconfirmed, multiple occupants of the bus suffered injuries, including one individual with a leg wound and another with a facial injury. Significant damage was reported to several vehicles within the motorcade.

This event marks the third time in two months that the deputy governor’s transport team has been involved in a collision, prompting questions regarding the maintenance and safety of government vehicles. It appears that the office currently faces a vehicle shortage, often forcing reliance on the governor’s fleet for support. Authorities at the Deputy Governor’s office have not issued a formal statement, and investigations into the cause and the severity of injuries are ongoing.
