In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major shift in the state’s political dynamics.

According to Arise TV, the defection was confirmed on Wednesday evening after a private meeting held at the Government House in Asaba.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, explained via a phone interview that the move came after “extensive consultations with political stakeholders” and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term growth.

Oborevwori, who secured the governorship in the 2023 election under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC by top party leaders—marking a significant gain for the ruling party.

Political observers have characterized the switch as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, with potential implications for the broader South-South geopolitical zone.
