Decomposing Body of Kidnapped Anambra Lawmaker, Justice Azuka, Found at 2nd Niger Bridge
The body of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North Constituency 1, was discovered on February 5, 2025, near the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Azuka had been kidnapped at gunpoint on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabakpa road in Inland Town, Onitsha.
The decomposing body was found by a combined security team. It was reported that the suspects responsible for the kidnapping and murder have been apprehended and led the authorities to the location where the body was discarded.
“We have arrested the culprits that kidnapped and killed him. They were arrested very late last (Wednesday) night and they now went and showed the security men where they dumped the corpse,” a security source told SaharaReporters.
“It is sad and tragic. What a huge loss. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family, traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi of Onitsha, Dr Alfred Achebe and the entire people of Onitsha North Constituency 1.”
Hon. Justice Azuka, the late lawmaker from the Labour Party (LP), had recently regained his seat following a court ruling that overturned the victory of Hon. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Egbuna had initially been declared the winner of the 2023 election, but the court ruling favored Azuka, allowing him to reclaim his mandate.
