Chief Henry Ikoh, a former minister and past APC governorship aspirant in Abia State, has called on his followers to move past internal party disputes and focus on securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027. Speaking in Umuahia at a thank-you event for the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ikoh addressed the friction caused by the previous governorship primary, which saw Chief Eric Opah emerge as the party’s nominee.
Although Ikoh previously described the primary process as a selection rather than a fair vote, he is now prioritizing party unity. He argued that the APC needs to foster a stronger connection with the federal government to drive development in Abia. Addressing concerns about the national economy, he voiced his support for President Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, noting that they are necessary to shift the nation from a consumption-based economy to a productive one.
Regarding speculation that the Labour Party might dominate the state in the next cycle, Ikoh labeled such claims as mere opinions and reaffirmed his total commitment to the APC. Party officials, including Mr. Emeka Okoroafor and Dr. Paul Uzuegbu, praised Ikoh for his leadership and commitment to the party’s broader success, pledging to follow his lead in mobilizing support across various local groups.
