ChatGPT Image Generator Accessible To Free Users, With Some Limitations
ChatGPT recently became a hot topic after OpenAI made its AI-generated image feature available to all users, including those on the free plan. Previously, image generation in the style of Studio Ghibli illustrations was limited to paid subscribers (such as ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro, and ChatGPT Team users). However, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that free users can now generate up to three images per day. Once this limit is reached, users are encouraged to upgrade to a paid plan to generate more images.
This feature has garnered massive interest, particularly due to its ability to produce Studio Ghibli-inspired artwork. The appeal of iconic films like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro has fueled a surge in new users, with ChatGPT gaining over one million new users in just an hour.
As users explored this new creative capability, the feature quickly became a trending topic across social media platforms. However, the excitement was accompanied by debates surrounding the potential consequences for professional artists. Many expressed concerns that AI-generated art could devalue human-created illustrations and affect the creative industry.
Despite these concerns, ChatGPT continues to grow at a rapid pace. OpenAI has reported that the chatbot now has over 500 million weekly active users. By making image generation accessible to everyone, OpenAI solidifies ChatGPT’s place as a major tool in the AI landscape, offering both advanced creative capabilities and widespread accessibility.
As AI-generated art becomes more prevalent, ongoing conversations about its ethical and professional impacts are expected to persist.
