Bwala claims military infighting during Buhari administration hindered air support

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala claims that past friction between military branches disrupted air support during the Buhari era, while defending the current government’s security coordination.

Daniel Bwala, a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that historical discord between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force under the previous administration negatively impacted military operations. During his appearance on The Link Up Podcast, Bwala alleged that animosity between military chiefs resulted in denied requests for air cover when troops were in the field.

He contrasted this with the current administration, insisting that modern operations benefit from improved cooperation and coordination. Addressing concerns regarding potential terrorist infiltration within security ranks, Bwala dismissed widespread claims that personnel intentionally facilitate attacks as mere conjecture, though he admitted that isolated cases of individual betrayal are possible in any nation.

Bwala referenced the case of Edward Snowden to illustrate that security breaches occur globally, even in developed nations. He further linked Nigeria’s security climate to international geopolitical tensions, noting instances where foreign flags were seen at protests and mentioning controversial allegations made by US Congressman Scott Perry regarding CIA funding of militant groups. Regarding the current government’s performance, Bwala lauded President Tinubu for boosting foreign reserves and revenue, suggesting that Nigerians should judge his re-election potential based on these results.
