Security forces are actively searching for militants who seized several students taking their National Examinations Council (NECO) tests at a secondary school in Borno State. The assault took place on Monday morning at the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, located within the Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
Armed men, suspected to be affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), infiltrated the campus on motorcycles. During the chaotic raid, the gunmen fired weapons and abducted multiple students alongside several women who operated food stalls at the school. Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police, stated that officers responded quickly to the scene, likely preventing a higher number of kidnappings. Law enforcement teams are currently searching the surrounding wilderness for the captives.
Witnesses and local officials, including Solomon Kwamagar, reported that the attackers were dressed in military and forest guard uniforms. Reports confirm that one teacher was killed, another was wounded, and the total count of those abducted remains unverified as operations continue.
