All iPhone 17 Models to Sport Samsung’s Top-Tier OLED Displays
Apple Finalizes iPhone 17 Design, Moves to Production with Major Upgrades
All four iPhone 17 models — base, Air, Pro, and Pro Max — will come equipped with Samsung’s latest and most advanced OLED displays. While LG Display has previously supplied a significant number of panels for iPhones, Apple has reportedly requested a larger supply from Samsung this time around.
Samsung Display’s M14 panel is not only visually impressive but also exceptionally bright. These displays are capable of reaching a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, marking a potential first for the iPhone. However, it is unlikely that the iPhone 17 will achieve that full brightness, as the same panel was used in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, which did not reach that level.
The most intriguing part of this development is that even the base iPhone 17 is expected to feature this advanced display. This suggests that Apple is placing a strong emphasis on the visual experience of its upcoming flagship devices—both in terms of screen quality and overall design.
One of the biggest disappointments with the iPhone 16 was its continued use of a 60 Hz display. However, recent reports suggest that this may finally change. Apple is expected to introduce ProMotion to the base iPhone 17 models, meaning all iPhone models will now feature a 120 Hz refresh rate.
By bringing ProMotion to non-Pro models alongside the M14 Samsung panel, Apple appears to be aiming for a more uniform visual experience across the iPhone 17 lineup. This change may also be linked to the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, which is replacing the Plus model. Unlike the Plus, which was essentially a larger base iPhone, the Air is positioned as a premium device, making the base iPhone 17 a unique standalone model.
There has been no confirmation on whether BOE will supply display panels for the iPhone 17 series. However, the combination of screen upgrades and design changes is set to bring a much-needed refresh to the iPhone lineup, which has remained visually similar for years.
