Political activist Aisha Yesufu argued on Saturday that Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, is mishandling his relationship with Abia State Governor Alex Otti. Yesufu suggested that Kalu should have cultivated a cordial relationship with the governor, particularly as a strategy to encourage his transition into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Writing on the social media platform X, the Nigeria Democratic Congress member noted that such a friendly diplomatic approach would have prevented tension with federal party leadership while maintaining local political support. She criticized Kalu for displaying arrogance and failing to grasp the true nature of political strategy.
Yesufu further emphasized that Kalu underestimated the influence of his own constituents. She warned that by ignoring the power of the voters and acting dismissively, he risks his future electoral prospects. Ultimately, she contended that Kalu’s actions reveal a fundamental misunderstanding of political influence.
