Assistant Inspector General of Police Olorundare Jimoh has issued a firm reminder that all citizens, regardless of their position, remain accountable to the nation’s legal standards. During an event at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, where he received a leadership award from National Express Newspapers and the Critical Leadership Value Organisation, Jimoh stressed that he is equally bound by the law.
Addressing the rise of social media trials, Jimoh cautioned the public against attempting to act as investigators, magistrates, or prosecutors. He characterized these online actions as disruptive to legitimate judicial processes and warned that those who ignore established legal boundaries will face consequences. He insisted that citizens must stop treating legal institutions like entertainment.
Furthermore, the AIG announced a policy shift to increase operational transparency. By keeping criminal cases within the Lagos and Ogun commands rather than transferring them to the zonal level, he aims to streamline investigations. He also commended the reforms implemented by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, which he believes have significantly boosted public trust in the police force.
Dr. Wole Odunsi, who presented the award, lauded Jimoh’s effectiveness in curbing criminal activity across Lagos and Ogun States. He noted that traditional rulers in the region have consistently praised Jimoh’s leadership style and his success in maintaining peace, solidifying his reputation as an exemplary officer.
