The Niger State government has issued a strict directive for all illegal mining operations to cease at once, warning that violators will face arrest and legal action. Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Mohammed Danjuma, stated that the state is committed to enforcing mining laws to sanitize the sector.
Danjuma emphasized that mining without proper authorization and legal permits is prohibited. He noted that such illicit actions endanger public safety, damage the environment, and harm the local economy by diverting potential revenue away from the state and host communities.
To combat these issues, the Ministry of Mineral Resources is working alongside security forces to monitor mining sites and identify offenders. The commissioner urged citizens, including traditional leaders, to report any unauthorized mining. He concluded that while the state welcomes legitimate investment, it will hold those operating outside the law fully accountable for their actions.
