The African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed satisfaction regarding the liberation of students and teachers who were held after a kidnapping in the Oriire area of Oyo State. In an official statement on Saturday, National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi lauded the security teams involved in the rescue after 56 days of captivity, offering support to the families of the survivors.
Despite this success, the ADC pressed the Federal Government to extend similar urgent efforts toward rescuing citizens still held in Borno and Kaiama, Kwara State. The party highlighted that many individuals, including school children from Borno, remain in the hands of criminals. They emphasized that every victim deserves the same level of national focus and swift action that led to the Oyo rescue.
The ADC warned that while celebrating such victories is appropriate, the government must prioritize long-term safety. The party noted that insecurity has become a common challenge under the current administration, potentially damaging economic investment and public trust. They urged officials to implement a comprehensive security strategy that includes better intelligence, improved agency coordination, and tackling the underlying causes of criminal activity to ensure all Nigerians can live without the constant fear of violence.
