An Abuja Chief Magistrate Court has dismissed the criminal proceedings initiated by the police against social media personality VeryDarkMan. The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, cited an absence of evidence to support the allegations.
Sharing the news via an Instagram video, the activist confirmed his discharge and acquittal. He noted that the legal dispute, which spanned two years, centered on accusations that he impersonated the Nigeria Police Force by wearing their uniform—an offense carrying a potential prison term of two to five years. He expressed relief that the ordeal had concluded with his honorable acquittal.
VeryDarkMan had faced arraignment in 2024 following his appearance in an online video where he identified as a Chief Superintendent of Police and the country’s top online officer. The court had previously granted him bail in the amount of N2 million in November 2024.
