Former Security Chief Fatally Shot by Unknown Assailants in Rivers State

A former Chief Security Officer in Rivers State was killed by unknown gunmen, prompting local officials to demand increased security and an immediate investigation.

Bori Town in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State experienced a surge of fear on Sunday evening following the fatal shooting of Letam Kine, a former Chief Security Officer of the council. The attack happened near the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Road around 6 p.m. Witnesses reported that bystanders and local residents ran from the scene to seek cover immediately after the shooting. The unidentified attackers escaped before law enforcement could respond, and their underlying motive is currently unknown.

Thomas Bariere, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, denounced the murder as a senseless tragedy. Through a statement released by his media representative, Barry Neemana, the chairman noted that this killing follows the recent death of Clement Deegbara J. from Kpon Community. He argued that these frequent violent incidents indicate that criminals are actively working to disrupt local stability. Bariere has requested that security forces increase their presence in the region to track down and prosecute the culprits.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched an inquiry into the matter. Public Relations Officer ASP Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe confirmed that the victim’s remains have been moved to a mortuary for an autopsy. While the police have initiated their investigation, they are encouraging the family of the deceased to file a formal report to assist in the legal process. The Command reiterated its promise to ensure that the perpetrators face the consequences of their actions under the law.
