Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader representing Benue South, has spoken out against recent assaults in the Otukpo Local Government Area by suspected armed herders. He labeled the rising violence as entirely unacceptable. A statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, highlighted that the raids in Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi have resulted in at least 10 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The senator warned that the increasing frequency of these killings could escalate into a significant security crisis. He called upon government authorities and security forces to uphold the Constitution by ensuring the protection of citizens and their belongings in Benue South.
Furthermore, Moro expressed outrage regarding an attack on a convoy transporting the body of Augustine O. Ikwue, a Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, through Kogi State. The procession was heading to the officer’s home in Ai-Ode for his funeral when attackers ambushed them and abducted several mourners. The senator condemned this act as inhumane and urged security services to prioritize the rescue of those taken hostage. He offered his sympathies to the Ikwue family and the families affected by the violence in the Otukpo area.
