APC Members in Sokoto Switch to ADC, Citing Economic Struggle and Rising Insecurity

Scores of APC supporters in Sokoto State have defected to the ADC, pointing to severe economic hardships and persistent insecurity as the driving forces behind their decision.

A large group of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters from Samo Village, located in the Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) this Wednesday. The switch was attributed to mounting financial difficulties, safety concerns, and a diminishing trust in the current administration.

The change of allegiance was formalised at the ADC state headquarters in Sokoto, attended by local party leadership and various community representatives. Those leaving the APC stated that the rising cost of living and persistent threats to safety influenced their choice to look for a different political path.

The defectors highlighted that government efforts have failed to meet expectations, leaving many in rural areas struggling with poverty and a lack of job opportunities. Furthermore, they pointed to insecurity as a primary catalyst for their departure, noting that frequent criminal attacks have crippled local agriculture, with many farmers deserting their lands due to the risk of kidnapping.

Alhaji Bello Dan Marafa, the ADC chairman for the Tambuwal area, welcomed the new arrivals as a sign of widespread disappointment with the ruling party. He emphasised that the ADC is ready to provide fair treatment and inclusive governance to all new members. Similarly, the ADC state chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Mai Gwandu, stated that the influx of new supporters significantly strengthens the party’s grassroots base. He expressed confidence that this move reflects a broader desire for change and better welfare for citizens across the country.
