Ben Davies, the captain of the Wales national football team, has secured a seat on the Football Association of Wales (FAW) council. The 32-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender, who committed to a one-year contract extension with his club this past June, is one of eight new members joining the governing body.
The FAW stated that these appointments represent a major step in their ongoing governance reform initiative, titled ‘Together Stronger for the Future’. FAW chief executive Noel Mooney emphasized that the goal is to ensure the leadership group better mirrors the diverse nature of modern football. The new cohort brings expertise from various sectors, including grassroots programs, coaching, and supporter advocacy.
Other notable appointments include former Bristol City manager Lauren Smith and Cardiff Draconians boss Nana Baah, who will serve as coaching representatives. Charl Galloway joins Davies as a player representative, while Dr. Penny Miles and Gareth Watts have been added to provide the perspective of fans. Additionally, Eleeza Khan and Begw Elain have been appointed to represent the interests of younger generations.
FAW president Mike Jones noted that the council is now better equipped to shape the future of the sport by incorporating a wider range of voices. Davies, who reached 100 caps for his country in October 2025, balances his professional career with his educational background in business and economics.
