Obi Mikel Taunts Arsenal Supporters Regarding Vinicius Junior Pursuit

John Obi Mikel has mocked Arsenal fans after the Gunners failed to secure a transfer for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, citing the club’s lack of major European trophies.

John Obi Mikel, the former Chelsea star, has ridiculed Arsenal fans following the club’s failed attempt to sign Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid this summer. Reports indicated that Arsenal intended to offer the Brazilian winger a contract that would have made him the best-paid player in Premier League history. However, the 26-year-old ultimately chose to remain in Spain by extending his deal with Real Madrid.

During his appearance on The Obi One Podcast, Obi Mikel argued that Arsenal’s lack of major European silverware made the transfer unrealistic. He challenged the notion that Arsenal has returned to elite status despite their recent competitive resurgence. According to the former midfielder, Vinicius Junior prioritizes clubs with a proven history of securing major trophies, specifically the Champions League and La Liga. Obi Mikel emphasized that Arsenal’s absence of a Champions League title makes them an unattractive destination for a player accustomed to frequent success at the highest level.
