She established her lead immediately with an opening leap of 5.09m; while this distance surpassed her 2018 Games record, excessive wind speeds prevented it from being officially ratified. Shortly after, she solidified her victory with a wind-legal jump of 5.03m, setting a new record.
This victory marks a successful defense of the title Breen originally captured at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, as the event was absent from the 2022 Birmingham schedule. The 30-year-old athlete leaves the competition with two medals, having previously secured silver in the T38 100m final. The podium was rounded out by Australians Layla Sharp, who achieved a new area record of 5.06m for silver, and Ayla Kowalczyk, who took home bronze.
Breen’s performance contributed to a highly successful day for Wales, which also saw gold medal wins from Anna Morris and Emma Finucane at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Across four Commonwealth Games appearances, Breen has now amassed five medals, including three golds.
