The Nigerian Army announced that militants in the Southeast have yielded to intensive pressure from the 82 Division and the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, leading to a surrender of various weapons. This update was shared through the official X handle of the military on Sunday.
Intelligence-driven maneuvers allowed troops to secure additional armaments and an Improvised Explosive Device. The Army stated that these gains highlight the success of their combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies intended to break down criminal factions and bring stability to the area. This progress follows continued military activities by the 34 Artillery Brigade, which were intensified after the apprehension of suspects involved in a soldier’s death.
Unable to endure the persistent offensive, militants operating near Egbema began turning over their arms voluntarily. One apprehended suspect guided the security team to a hidden cache. Recovered items consisted of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 54 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and four homemade firearms.
Additionally, troops from Sector 5 of Operation UDO KA utilized reliable intelligence to seize two General Purpose Machine Guns, 45 rounds of 7.62 mm x 51 ammunition, and another IED, further weakening the ability of criminal groups to endanger the public.
