The Nigerian Army has initiated a significant restructuring of its top leadership hierarchy, introducing new commanders, General Officers Commanding (GOCs), and principal staff officers. This move is designed to bolster operational efficiency and improve the state of national security.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, confirmed the changes in a statement released on Saturday. Authorized by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the transition impacts training, command, and operational staff across various sectors.
Key leadership changes include Major General WM Dangana taking charge of the 3 Division and Operation ENDURING PEACE, while Major General EI Okoro assumes command of the 6 Division and Operation DELTA SAFE. Additionally, Major General JR Lar becomes the commander of the Army Headquarters Garrison.
Various training and administrative roles were also adjusted. Major General KE Chigbu is now the Deputy Commandant at the National Defence College, and Major General SD Makolo will lead the Nigerian Army Armour School. Furthermore, leadership roles were assigned to managing directors for defense-related corporate entities, including Post Housing Development Limited and Defence Properties Limited.
Lieutenant General Shaibu has challenged the incoming officers to display high standards of professionalism and innovation. The Army leadership emphasized that this rotation is essential for maintaining a combat-ready force capable of neutralizing contemporary security threats throughout the country.
