Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, has called upon all military personnel, civilian staff, veterans, and their families to maintain their dedication to Nigeria’s defense. This appeal was issued during Juma’at prayers on Friday, which formed part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026.
Highlighting the 163-year history of the force, Shaibu noted that the anniversary provides a moment to express gratitude, honor those who have died in service, and recommit to national security. He emphasized that the institution remains resilient in facing modern security threats, such as terrorism, insurgency, and oil theft, while fulfilling its constitutional duties.
The Army Chief praised the troops for their ongoing successes in combatting criminal groups and restoring peace to various communities. He reaffirmed his leadership philosophy, which prioritizes the “Soldier-First” culture, focusing on better welfare, training, and healthcare. Furthermore, he noted that increased recruitment efforts sanctioned by the federal government will boost the military’s strength.
Shaibu also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support of the Armed Forces. He concluded by asking the public to support security personnel through prayer, while reminding soldiers to continue upholding the core military values of integrity, discipline, and selfless service.
