The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has issued a warning regarding a scam spreading across social media platforms. This misleading message incorrectly asserts that prepaid meter users can obtain a 20 percent bonus on electricity credits if they recharge via unauthorized methods.
In an official announcement released on Monday, YEDC clarified that this promotion is entirely fictitious. The firm explicitly stated that it is not the source of these claims and has no affiliation with such offers. Furthermore, the company clarified that it does not provide bonus units through third-party agents, individual bank accounts, private phone numbers, or social media handles.
Customers are strongly encouraged to procure energy tokens exclusively through verified cashless platforms. Approved channels include the YEDC Pay App, Interswitch, OPay, and other recognized vendors. Alternatively, consumers may seek help at any physical YEDC branch. To protect against potential fraud, the company warned individuals against sharing meter numbers or sensitive personal information with unauthorized entities claiming to represent the utility provider. YEDC advises the public to consult only official company channels for news to avoid financial loss.
