400-Level Katsina University Student Shot Dead by CJTF Member
The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a 400-level student at the Federal University, Dutsinma, Sa’idu Abdulkadir Amir, allegedly by a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Reports indicate that the Agricultural Science student and a commercial motorcyclist were shot by CJTF members on Sunday, February 23, 2025, after being mistakenly identified as informants for bandits.
Sa’idu died instantly, while the motorcyclist sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, students have staged violent protests across Dutsinma, setting vehicles on fire and vandalizing property.
As a result, the university management announced the closure of the institution on Monday.
Confirming the development in a statement, the police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, assured the public that authorities are investigating the matter.
“The Katsina Police Command has commenced an investigation into a shooting incident involving a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). The incident resulted in the injury of an okada rider and the death of a 400-level student of the Federal University Dutsinma,” the statement read.
“Preliminary reports indicate that on February 23rd, 2025, at approximately 11:26 a.m., a commercial motorcycle rider carrying a passenger, Sa’idu Abdulkadir, was stopped by CJTF members in a Hilux vehicle. One of the JTF members opened fire, injuring both victims.
