24-Year-Old Welder Electrocuted in Lagos
A 24-year-old welder named Adedeji was electrocuted to death on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, October 1, 2024, while Adedeji was working on a two-storey building under renovation.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the details on Wednesday, noting that Adedeji had been hired by his brother for the job.
According to the police, Adedeji came into contact with a live electrical source while on the second floor, suffering severe burns to both legs.
The force of the electrocution was so intense that his body was thrown down to the first floor.
The incident was reported to the Adeniji Adele Police Division by a complainant who had arranged the job.
“A complainant reported at the Adeniji Adele Division that his elder brother has a plaza at Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos Island, which is under renovation and being supervised. A welder engaged his brother, named Adedeji, aged 24, and while working, Adedeji was electrocuted,” Hundeyin said.
“Upon receiving the report, the DPO led the patrol team and detectives of the division to the scene and discovered it’s a two-storey building under renovation. The victim was on the second floor when the incident happened; his two legs were burnt off, and the burnt body was flung down to the first floor.”
Photographs were taken at the scene, and the body was transported to Yaba General Hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed Adedeji’s death.
“The corpse was deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. Investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin added.
