180 Stranded Nigerians Rescued and Returned from Libya
The Lagos territorial office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced the repatriation of 180 Nigerians from Libya.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, October 3, the agency noted that the returnees consist of 67 females, 55 males, 42 children, and 16 infants.
NEMA reported that the group arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 2.
“In continuation of voluntary evacuation of Nigerian nationals from Libya facilitated by International Organisation for Migration (IOM) , the NEMA lagos Territorial Office LTO and other stakeholders received a batch of 180 returnees on Wednesday 2nd October, 2024,” the post reads.
“The returnees arrived at about 1930hours aboard charter flight, Al-Buraq airline with registration no: 5A-DMG with 180 returnees on board. They comprised: 67 adult females, 55 adult males, 24 female children, 18 male children and 16 infants.
“The returnees were taken through biometric profiling by Nigerian Immigration Service while other humanitarian supports were provided by other agencies of government. This was to ensure they were well received and had basic items to meet their immediate needs.”
