Wike to PDP Hopefuls: Political Power Must Be Seized, Not Gifted

Nyesom Wike has challenged PDP members to actively pursue political power for the 2027 elections, stressing that success requires hard work and resilience rather than waiting for handouts.

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a central figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a stern call to action for members preparing for the 2027 general elections. During the party’s 109th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, Wike emphasized that political influence is never handed over freely but is won through sacrifice, resilience, and dedicated labor.

Reflecting on his own career, Wike warned aspirants that they should not expect success without overcoming adversity. He urged party members to stop relying on past comforts, likening those who struggle to adjust to life outside of power to spoiled children who are lost when their source of provision disappears. The former Rivers State governor insisted that the party must abandon entitlement and instead focus on delivering tangible grassroots results.

Regarding the party’s ongoing legal hurdles, Wike remained unphased, noting that the organization is prepared for the next electoral cycle regardless of court challenges. He encouraged candidates to prioritize performance, stating that party leadership would be evaluated by the electoral victories they secure at various levels, from the assembly to the national legislature.

PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa also addressed the gathering. Both leaders advocated for internal reconciliation, unity, and a collective push to mobilize voters. They praised the party’s structure and emphasized that overcoming internal divisions is essential for the PDP to remain a formidable political force in Nigeria.
