Senator Victor Umeh, who represents the Anambra Central Senatorial District, has alleged that the Peace Movement Party (PMP) is acting as a tool to prevent the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from competing in the 2027 general elections. During a guest appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ program on Monday, Umeh challenged the claim that the PMP holds exclusive rights to the victory-sign logo, noting that it is a universal symbol.
Umeh highlighted that legal challenges surfaced almost immediately after prominent figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso aligned with the NDC on May 3. By May 4, a motion was filed to challenge the party’s registration, despite the fact that the NDC had been officially recognized for several months. He emphasized that the logo’s ownership is tied to legal registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that the PMP lacks the standing to claim it.
This controversy follows a decision by a Federal High Court in Lokoja, which voided a previous ruling that had instructed INEC to register the NDC. Umeh remains firm that these actions represent a broader effort to undermine the political opposition ahead of the 2027 cycle.
