Lagos Police Announce Total Lockdown For July 12 Local Government Elections
The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement ahead of the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.
According to a statement by command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, movement across all roads and waterways will be prohibited from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election day.
Key highlights of the directive include:
No vehicles allowed, except those providing essential services like ambulances.
Security aides and armed escorts are banned from accompanying political figures to polling units or collation centres.
Siren use and covered number plates are strictly prohibited near voting areas.
Accredited media personnel and election observers with LASIEC identification are exempt from the restriction.
The statement stressed that the measures are designed to ensure a safe, free, and fair electoral process in Lagos.
