UK Authorities Arrest Over 300 in Major Anti-Trafficking Operation

A coordinated five-day police operation across the UK resulted in 362 arrests and the seizure of over £1 million in cash, targeting organized immigration crime and illegal business practices.

Law enforcement across the United Kingdom recently completed a five-day operation resulting in 362 arrests, aimed at dismantling organized immigration crime and illicit trade. The initiative, running from June 15 to June 20, involved multiple agencies including the Home Office, Immigration Enforcement, and Trading Standards.

During the sweep, authorities recovered over £1 million in cash. Officers also confiscated illegal tobacco, vaping products, and cigarettes estimated to be worth more than £700,000, alongside various vehicles and drugs. Among those detained were 57 individuals who had arrived in the country via small boats crossing the English Channel.

The crackdown specifically targeted businesses such as car washes, barber shops, and nail salons. According to the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), criminal gangs frequently exploit these types of establishments to hide illegal employment, abuse vulnerable individuals, and launder money.

Alex Norris, the Minister for border security and asylum, praised the effort as a successful example of agencies pooling resources. This enforcement action follows the May announcement of a £30 million unit dedicated to fighting organized crime on the high street. While the number of small boat arrivals reached 11,638 by June 26, officials noted this figure remains 37% lower than the same timeframe in 2025.

DCC Wendy Gunney, lead for the domestic taskforce on organized immigration crime, stated that the operation serves as a warning to criminal syndicates that authorities are unified in their pursuit of justice. Businesses found violating employment laws may face further civil penalties.
