A severe downpour on Saturday afternoon left numerous families homeless in Darwat-Jol, a village situated in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The intense rainfall triggered flash flooding that decimated more than 20 homes and ruined significant stretches of farmland.
Local resident Damba Dang characterized the storm as an exceptionally powerful event for the region. He noted that the area’s limited drainage infrastructure failed to contain the deluge, which ultimately caused mud and thatch structures to crumble. Beyond the loss of shelter, many inhabitants reported that their stored food and personal belongings were destroyed by the rising water.
The destruction of agricultural fields has created additional strain for the farming community. Local citizens are now calling on the Plateau State government and humanitarian groups to deliver emergency aid and essential relief supplies to those affected by the disaster.
